Dressage saddles are designed for flatwork riding with a longer, straighter saddle flap than a General Purpose saddle.

Dresasge saddles are designed for the rider to ride with a lengthened leg in close contact with the horse and dressage saddles often have a roll knee and/or thigh roll to encourage the rider's leg to stay in position. Dressage saddles also have a deep seat for straight posture and enhanced balance.

With the need for the rider's leg to be long and in close contact with the horse, the girth straps on a dressage saddle extend further from the saddle and are used with a shorter girth which prevents the buckles of the girth from interfering with the rider's lower leg.
