Horses are grazing animals with small stomachs designed to digest small amounts of food almost constantly. A horse or pony usually consumes about 2% or more of their body weight in feed each day although an individual horse's nutritional requirement will vary depending on their age, weight and activity.
In addition to feed horses require 5-15 gallons of water per day and water should always be available to a horse whether it is grazing or stabled and it is particularly important that water is available prior to feeding.
