Dun horses are a creamy golden colour with black mane and tail.
The body of a dun horse is creamy golden although it may vary from very pale to a rich creamy gold. The mane and tail are black but can have some lighter hairs. The lower legs are black. Dun horses display the primative markings of a black dorsal stripe and striping on the legs commonly seen on the Przewalski breed of horse and this distinguishes them from buckskin horses which have a similar coat colour but do not display these markings.
Dun horses are the result of a dun dilution gene. The classic dun is the result of the dun gene combined with a bay. On a chestnut base colour the dun gene produces a Red Dun and on a black base the Blue Dun.
